Perfecting your test technique: Play audiometry

Description

This session will explore play audiometry and the challenges facing clinicians performing this test. Suggestions, ideas, tips and tricks will be proposed to help clinicians elevate their testing technique. Technological advances designed to simplify the clinician’s experience, minimize cueing and focus more closely on the patient will be presented through video demonstration and case studies.

Amanda Goodhew
Amanda holds a Master's degree in Audiology from the University of Southampton. She has extensive experience holding senior audiologist positions in numerous NHS hospitals and clinics, where her primary focus has been pediatric audiology. Her specific areas of interest include electrophysiology (in particular ABR, ASSR and cortical testing), neonatal diagnostics and amplification and the assessment and rehabilitation of patients with autism and complex needs. Amanda has a particular interest in pediatric behavioral assessment and has twice held the Chairperson position for the South London Visual Reinforcement Audiometry Peer Review Group. Amanda also works as an independent technical assessor for the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, undertaking quality assessment for audiological services throughout the UK, and provides guest lecturing services to universities both in the UK and abroad.
Michael East
Michael is an Audiologist and Clinical Scientist from the UK with many years of experience working in senior clinical audiology positions within the National Health Service, specialising in both paediatrics and vestibular assessment/rehabilitation. He holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Southampton and Aston University respectively and completed the UK’s National School of Healthcare Science “Scientist Training Programme”, leading to his registration as a Clinical Scientist. Since joining the Academy in 2024, Michael has presented at several international scientific conferences, guest lectured at academic institutions and led courses on a wide range of topics in the field of audiology.
