Ear tips

The OtoRead™ instrument comes with a box of disposable ear tips that fit in a variety of ear canal sizes.
The probe tip must have an ear tip attached before inserting it into an ear canal.
The ear tip kit has 12 different size ear tips from 3 mm infant ear tips to 13 mm for adult testing.
After selecting an ear tip, push it onto the probe tip until it flush against the base of the probe tip. The sound outlet tubes on the probe tip are recessed to minimize the likelihood of clogging.

If the probe tip becomes plugged or clogged, it must be replaced. See below for replacing the probe tip.

Replacing the probe tip

To replace the probe tip, squeeze the tabs as shown in the picture. The tabs must snap off the probe assembly.
Pull the probe tip directly off the probe and discard it.

Obtain a replacement probe tip and orient the tip as shown in the 3rd picture above. The probe tip will only fit on one way - be careful not to force the tip in place. Push the probe tip directly down onto the probe body. Once the probe tip is in place on the probe, push firmly downward on the top of the tabs one at a time until a click is heard. Tug lightly on the probe tip to verify that the tip is securely attached.

NOTE: If the probe tip is not inserted completely, the OtoRead™ will not perform a test.

Cleaning and disinfecting the OtoRead™

Wipe the surface with a cloth slightly dampened with mild detergent or normal hospital bactericides. Do not immerse the unit in any fluids.
Do not clean the unit with isopropyl alcohol or other solvents. It may cause material changes causing it to leak and obtain incorrect measurements.

Inspection of the OtoRead™

The OtoRead™ and its parts must undergo service if the following applies

  1. Broken probe tip and/or its housing – damage may result in incorrect results
  2. Broken or cracked rubber tubing from the OtoRead™ to the probe tip
  3. OtoRead™ constantly reports “Fit error” (the calibration sequence could not reach target level)
  4. OtoRead™ constantly reports no volume - probe tip and/or ear tip may be clogged
  5. OtoRead™ constantly reports full volume - incorrect seal, probe and/or rubber tube may be leaking

NOTE: Never pull on the rubber tube in order to disassemble the OtoRead™ and the transducer as it will damage the part causing the OtoRead™ to malfunction.

If the instrument is faulty, please contact the nearest service office. Keep the shipping material for the carriers’inspection and insurance claim.

Use only the ear tips and probe tips approved for use with the instrument.
We recommend using a new ear tip for each patient. The ear tips are not designed for reuse and an appropriate level of cleanliness cannot be guaranteed even if recognized disinfecting procedures are used. There is also a risk of material decomposition caused by the cleaning agent. Only with new and original Interacoustics supplies is the measuring accuracy guaranteed. Supplies were designed specifically to obtain optimal measuring results and non-original supplies may compromise results. Refer to the Instructions for Use for further information.
