The infant ear simulator–this one here–is provided for performing a daily system check or probe check.
A daily probe check ensures that the equipment is in good working order prior to testing on patients.
To conduct a probe check, place a red flanged ear tip on the probe tip like so, and place it into the infant ear simulator.
Select 'quick test' from the test screen and the test type, and then press start.
You should perform the testing in a quiet test environment.
The test will run for approximately 60 seconds.
Let the test run until it automatically stops.
No OAEs or responses should be detected during this test.
As you can see on the screen here, no OAEs have been detected.
There are no green bars and the system check has passed.
If one or more of the bars is green, then the probe check has failed.
Check the probe tip for wax or debris and clean if necessary or exchange the probe tip before running the test again.
If green bars still appear, contact your distributor for assistance.
Do not perform testing in patients if the system check fails.
