Founded in Denmark

Interacoustics A/S was founded in Denmark in 1967 by the Dane Pierre Honore and Michael Davis from New York. The two men met during World War II and decided to set up a business producing and selling hearing equipment for the deaf. The company started out at modest premises, Berrildsvej in Assens. Just five years later in 1972, Interacoustics needed to move to a larger base in an old farm outside the town. By 1978, Interacoustics had outgrown these premises too, and built a new head office at Drejervænget in Assens. Over the following 20 years, production grew and the company continued to expand.
In the 1970s, products at Interacoustics were hardware-based and focused primarily on audiometry. The first audiometer was launched in 1969 and in 1974, the first middle ear analyzer AZ2 was introduced. During the 1980s and 1990s, as the company grew in strength, the rate of development increased. By remaining at the front edge of new technological developments, our products became ever ‘smarter’. Being the only full-line supplier in the field, the products now range from compact handhelds to sophisticated desk units across the fields of balance, audiometry, tympanometry and ABR/OAE.

Our modernistic and fully customized headquarters in Middelfart provides an impressive base from which Interacoustics continues to build on its strong foundations and continue to be the worlds leading manufacturer.

1967

Interacoustics is founded in Assens selling deaf school equipment.

1972

Interacoustics moves to a former farmhouse in Voldbro just outside Assens in Denmark.

1974

The first impedance audiometer, AZ2, is developed and introduced.

1977

Interacoustics moves to new dedicated premises in Assens. This is the home of the production facilities and administration for the next 37 years.

1988

The first Hearing Aid fitting system MS20 is sold.

1994

We introduce a new clinical audiometer AC40 building on our long tradition of audiometry.

2000

William Demant Holding A/S, a publicly traded company on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, acquires Interacoustics A/S, making Interacoustics the leading company in WDH’s diagnostic group.

2003

Launch of the Eclipse, a new member of the ABR/OAE family, as well as the OtoRead, a handheld device for newborn screening.

2009

The Titan, combining audiometry and impedance in one handheld device, is introduced – the first and only of its kind. Today, the Titan is one of Interacoustics’ best selling products.

2013

Interacoustics introduces Wideband Tympanometry – a new dimension in differential diagnostics, expanding our understanding of the middle ear.

2015

Around 150 employees move into their new workplace on Audiometer Allé 1 in Middelfart.
