Probes, tips and EarPhones

Selecting the correct size ear tip takes practice. In general, flanged or mushroom shaped ear tips will be used for most testing (Impedance, DPOAE, TEOAE and Automated ABR). Sometimes, an umbrella shaped ear tip will be used for performing a quick impedance screening.

The table below can be used as a guide to help you select an appropriate ear tip size.

To ensure the optimal use of your Sanibel disposable tab or snap electrodes, please observe the following:

  • Ensure that the skin is clean and dry before placing the electrode.
  • It is recommended to use alcohol or a similar cleaning agent to clean the newborn skin, especially if the skin is greasy or oily.
  • Use a small amount of conductive electrode gel to improve impedances, if required.
  • Avoid water.
  • Avoid sweat.
  • Use pinch cables for snap electrodes and alligator cables for tab electrodes.
  • When applying electrodes to the skin, press down firmly on the entire electrode surface to improve adhesion.
  • Electrode adhesion time is limited to a maximum of 1 hour.
  • Use before the expiry date printed on the pouch.

Step 1: Unscrew the probe cap and remove the probe tip.

Step 2: Thread the cleaning floss into one of the channels from the base of the probe tip. Pull the cleaning floss completely through the probe tip channel.

To clean the larger channel it is advisable to double the floss to clean the entire surface effectively.

To access and clean the channel it is necessary to remove the gasket from inside the probe tip. You can do this using a fine pin. Push the gasket back into place after cleaning.
Clean each of the channels as needed. Discard floss after use.

Step 3: Reattach the probe tip to the probe and screw the cap into place.

Notice:

DO NOT clean the probe tip while it is mounted on the probe.

Only insert the cleaning floss or wire into the back of the probe tip to ensure wax/debris is pushed out of the probe tip instead of into it. This also protects the gasket from being damaged.

DO NOT insert cleaning tools directly into the probe. This will damage sensitive components.

The insert phones (transducer boxes, cables, tubes and adapters) can be wiped down with a damp cloth and a disinfectant wipe after use.

Be careful that no fluid enters into the adapters or sensitive areas.

Step 1: Remove the insert earphone adapters.

Step 2: Wipe down the adapters.

If an eartip adapter is contaminated with earwax or debris inside the adapter, use the eartip adapter cleaning brush to remove the debris. If desired, clean the adapter in an ultrasonic bath. The adapter can be replaced, as needed.

Step 3: Wipe down the tubes.

Examine the tubes periodically for any cracks in the tubing. Replace a cracked tube with a new one.

Step 4: Wipe down the transducer boxes and cable as needed.

Step 5: Assemble the adapters again.

Notice:

Before reuse: The insert earphone components should be completely dry before reuse.

Accessories: If necessary, replace the tubes and adapters.

Tube length is critical to stimulus calibration. Do not modify the length of the tubing in any way.
